I died when I was 8 years old. I drowned...
If my father hadn't pulled me out of the water I would have stayed dead. Just before I blacked out, I saw the most beautiful light coming through the water. A light so bright and full of love it made me forget about death. Years went by and I forgot about the light. Things changed, I got older. People I loved saw their own light. And I eventually saw mine again. This is the story of my light.

This is an interesting story, once you get close to the end and have that "Oh! THAT'S what's going on" moment. Up to then, it's frustratingly confusing, and I almost walked away a couple of times. It's desperately in need of a proofreader, too -- there are something like 50 or 60 punctuation and capitalization mistakes, which is way too many for a story of this length.
Would I recommend it? I suppose so, but I wish the author had taken the time to do another couple of polishes.

The Light Through the Water edition by Ernie Howard Sonja Howard Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
What did I just read? I don't get it? ..was this a book or a book report? Interesting but strange..I thought he would say he went to heaven or something ?
This book read like a dream. It began with the innocent perspective of a child. It was full of wonder. As I read on, it began to take shape in a way that was completely unpredictable. I felt uneasy and breathless, the way the author most likely intended. I felt as if I was one with Ryan. The peak of this roller coaster ride descended to a cold place. Finally, back to that same childhood innocence, but with a twist.
Definitely a nice read that was a welcome break from my predictable day!
Not scary at all. This book is about love. The love of a father for his son, the love of a son for his mother. The love of brothers for their comrades in war, and the love that lives after death.
The story begins with a near tragedy and unfolds into something I completely did not expect. Short and poignant, this is a story that will stay with you. I recommend this book for a highly satisfying read.
This is an interesting, thought-provoking and well-written short story that has a Vonnegut-esque influence in the storytelling style. Hard to say much without adding spoilers, but certainly worth the read, especially if you’re interested in stories that explore spirituality.
This short story was interesting and had errors throughout. I liked the growth of the character and the descriptions that where used. It was a little confusing at times but was well done overall.
Loved reading every word. Raw, original, sad but hopeful, kept me on the edge of my seat, turning the pages to find out what was going to happen to... the main character. I won't give away the name of the main character; it would be a spoiler if I did. So the story is short, yes, but full of emotion, life, death, honesty, and love. Mr. Howard did a great job writing a somewhat classic idea that many of us have heard before but in a unique way with a unique main character. I will say that the main character is young. Anyone who has ever gone through a life or death encounter will quickly identify with the story of a child whose life flashes before him. Whether or not you have faced the reality of death, this short story will bring you one step closer to... the Light.
